A Patient Eagle

Image
While the missus and I were kayaking on Jordan Lake this morning, we spotted this regal fellow, or should I say, he spotted us. The eagle was actually quite high in the tree and I had to zoom in to get the closeup. He stayed in place until I finished taking pictures before spreading his wings and gliding to his next perch. I imagine he was looking for fish. Bald Eagle sightings at Jordan Lake are becoming more common each year, or so it seems. When I first started camping here some 20 years ago, they were rare. Now, it is rare to spend a weekend here and not see one. The campgrounds here are state-run, which I like. We don't have to put up with crowding and noise endemic to most commercial operations. The sites at this particular park are spacious and wooded. They boast electrical and water hookups but no sewer. There is a dump station available at the exit, so the lack of a sewer hookup isn't an issue for short stays. It is the relative quiet I enjoy most. With school starti...

Do You Read Stories on Kindle Vella? (Concurrently published on myLot.)

Image
The story referred to in the photo was published on Kindle Vella under the pen name W.B. Sears. About a year ago, Kindle started a new program for writers and readers called Kindle Vella. Have you tried it? Writers post serialized stories one chapter/episode at a time and schedule the release of each installment. The first three episodes are free to read and the rest are paid for with tokens. The more tokens you purchase at a time, the lower the unit cost. I have posted several stories on Kindle Vella and have enjoyed moderate success. It has proven much more lucrative than Wattpad and HubPages put together. Vella has a wide variety of genres to choose from. It is a good way to try out a story without having to invest anything but time. Currently, Kindle Vella stories can be read on any device using the free Kindle App, but not on Kindle e-readers themselves. An odd decision by KDP, but hopefully they will soon make the stories available for their own devices.
