A Patient Eagle

While the missus and I were kayaking on Jordan Lake this morning, we spotted this regal fellow, or should I say, he spotted us. The eagle was actually quite high in the tree and I had to zoom in to get the closeup. He stayed in place until I finished taking pictures before spreading his wings and gliding to his next perch. I imagine he was looking for fish.

Bald Eagle sightings at Jordan Lake are becoming more common each year, or so it seems. When I first started camping here some 20 years ago, they were rare. Now, it is rare to spend a weekend here and not see one.

The campgrounds here are state-run, which I like. We don't have to put up with crowding and noise endemic to most commercial operations. The sites at this particular park are spacious and wooded. They boast electrical and water hookups but no sewer. There is a dump station available at the exit, so the lack of a sewer hookup isn't an issue for short stays.

It is the relative quiet I enjoy most. With school starting on Monday, I will have very few quiet moments for some time to come. I shall enjoy the ones I can.
